Not All Who Wander Are Lost

Terrible at Tumblr

Every so often I mention that I’m terrible at social media.  Desire to post and having interesting things *to* post come in dribs and drabs.  But particularly, posting band-appropriate content is even harder to come by.  So yeah.  Don’t give up on this!  I promise I’ll have something fun up soon.

Song Shop Commissions!

So I am now officially taking song commissions. Consider the song shop officially open!

Here’s the pricing scheme:

Write you a short song about whatever I like: $25
Write you a short song about whatever you want: $50
Write you a full length song about whatever I like: $75
Write you a full length song about whatever you want: $100

All songs come with a free live performance of your song either for you and your friends at home or at a TRW show.

We’ll record the performance and it’ll be yours to keep.

For an extra $50 I’ll track the song on my home studio, mix it, master it and send it to you.

If you happen to have an extra $600 kicking around, add that to the price and we’ll go record the song in a professional studio and you’ll have an amazing full band rendition of the song.

Also keep in mind I’m willing to write in literally any style you like, but I am mostly a vocalist/guitarist so some things will fit some price models better than others. Also, I’m pretty sure I’d make an awful hardcore rapper, so just keep that in mind.

Reblog if you’ll answer anything that gets put in your ask right now.

Sometimes Being “Straight” is Complicated

mechanised:

deflare:

I saw this on my Dash not too long ago: “LGBT SHIT THAT BLOWS: When your cismale friend asks you out on a date and says he isn’t gay because you’re a ‘girl’.”

Oof, this one hits near the gut. Burbling about my awkward stand in relation to this under the Read More.

So at first I was going to send this in an ask, but it got too long. Then a submission, but I decided I’m okay with any of my followers reading this. In fact, I’d like them too.

I’m probably not the best person to take anything at face value from. I go a lot by feelings and guesses, and other people might feel very differently.

Sometimes reading the right things is practically resonant.  “It aches not to be how I want to be.”  This is a feeling I think is at the heart of not just alternate sexual identities/transexuality/genderqueer/etc but rather for most people in general regardless of sexual outlook and identity.  I “ache not to be” as thin, or well cut, or tall as I wish I was.  As I want to be.  The thought that if you could just be more how you picture yourself in your head, everything will be suddenly better -> it is beyond pervasive, it’s addicting and sometimes inspiring.  But it doesn’t always work.  I know I for one can look at old pictures of myself and think “my god, that’s so much more the me I want to be” but I can recall *being* that me, and being malcontented.  I’m increasingly convinced that malcontent is built into being human, and that contentment is by far the harder state to achieve because it involves actively resisting our discontentment.  /ramble

One More

Just one more mix and the whole shebang is out the door for mastering.  We’re getting so close I can smell the grill marks…

First of all, let’s clarify what the NASA budget is. Do you realize that the $850 billion dollar bailout, that sum of money is greater than the entire 50-year running budget of NASA?

And so when someone says, “We don’t have enough money for this space probe,” I’m asking, no, it’s not that you don’t have enough money, it’s that the distribution of money that you’re spending is warped in some way that you are removing the only thing that gives people something to dream about tomorrow.

You remember the 60s and 70s. You didn’t have to go more than a week before there’s an article in Life magazine, “The Home of Tomorrow,” “The City of Tomorrow,” “Transportation of Tomorrow”. All of that ended in the 1970s. After we stopped going to the Moon, it all ended. We stopped dreaming.

And so I worry that the decision that Congress makes doesn’t factor in the consequences of those decisions on tomorrow. Tomorrow’s gone. They’re playing for the quarterly report, they’re playing for the next election cycle, and that is mortgaging the actual future of this nation, and the rest of the world is going to pass us by.

Calling all Steampunks, Dancers, Carnival Folk!

As I’m sure many of you are aware, we’re putting out our debut record not so far in the future.  And we have a pretty fantastic track picked out as a first single (to the extent the independently produced, self promoted bands have singles!).  But what you may *not* know is that we’re planning on making a video for it.

I don’t think I’d be terribly remiss if I gave away the title.  ”Feria Cinerum” is our stab at heavy carnival rock, and features the illustrious Rob Curto (Forró for All) on the accordion.

Needless to say, WE NEED YOU!  Are you a waltzer, fire eater, belly dancer, steam tramp, burlesquer?  Do you live in New York City (or are you down with a road trip here?)  Do you want to be in a rock video?  If so, let us know!

Drop a line to robare@therosewest.com and we’ll get you information about the upcoming shoot.  See you there!

Friends on Tour

So this is probably old new for most folks, but our good friends from the band Three are going out in September to support Within Temptation.  Dan Grimsland from Three was kind enough to lend us his bass skills (and some vocals) for our upcoming record, so it’s we’re pretty much permanently obliged to “pimp their shit” as it were.

I know I’ll be hitting up the NYC show myself.  Support kick ass rock folks.
